William "Billy" Lee Thorn, 86, of Spencer, WV went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2023 at the Miletree Center in Spencer.

He was born July 20, 1936 in Wood County, WV and was the son of the late Willard Wheeler Thorn and Eula Virginia George Thorn Sims.

Billy was a 1955 graduate of Spencer High School and attended Glenville State College. He was a lifelong farmer and co-owner of B & J Market in Billings General Merchandise Store. He had worked at Keen Corp. and helped build Kaiser Aluminum. He was very active in 4-H where he received his "Charting" pin and, on the livestock judging team. Billy served as president of the Community Action Program and helped organize the Two Runs Community Fair.

Billy was an ordained and licensed minister in Full Gospel. He was an evangelist for several years where he preached in Ohio, North Carolina and West Virginia. Billy and his late wife Jurlene, were the founders and co-organizers of Christ Church in Spencer. He was always active in church work serving as a trustee, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He attended Two Runs Baptist Church; for many years he and his wife sang in a gospel quartet with Evelyn Board, Chester Hall and pianist, Lois Higgins. Billy enjoyed being the master of ceremonies during the gospel sings at the Two Runs Community Building.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his four children, Nancy Harper (Mikel) of Mt. Nebo, WV, Jeffrey Thorn (LouAnn) of Palestine, WV, Liz McDonald (Stephen) of Spencer, WV and James Thorn (Tiffany) of Culloden, WV; sister, Pam Riley of Georgia; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Jurlene Wanda Gherke Thorn.

Services will be 1:00 PM ~ Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, WV with Pastor Leary Vanhorn officiating. Burial will follow at Two Runs Cemetery in Wirt County, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
