Roger
Kelley
Apr 4, 1961 — Aug 4, 2025
Roger Allen Kelley, 64, of Spencer, joined the company of angels on Monday, August 4, 2025 at his home, surrounded by loving family. He was born on April 4, 1961 in Spencer, a son of Ina (Davis) and the late John "Tinker" Kelley. Roger never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with anyone who had the time and inclination. Always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand, Roger was a blessing to all who had the honor of knowing him: truly a good man with a benevolent soul. Roger loved hunting, spending time on the family farm, tinkering like his Dad, eating beef jerky and popcorn, going to the movies, and most of all, spending time with his family. That family was not limited to his blood relatives, but extended to his Harris Oil family of the past 45 years. In addition to his mother Ina, Roger will be forever missed and cherished in the memories of his wife, Melanie Wilson; daughter, Kristen (Justin) Drake of Spencer; son, Derek (Trinity) Kelley of Ripley; stepson, Shelby (Erin) Wilson of Creekside, PA; stepdaughter, Mandy (Gilles) Makon of Fairmont; stepdaughter, Jessica (Evan) Billings of Kittanning, PA; beloved grandchildren Ellie, Walker, Zoey, Finley, Anna, Emma, Avery, Jaden, and Christian; sister, Sherry (Dave) Phillips; brother, Kevin (Terri) Kelley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother Bryan Kelley and his nephew James Greathouse – all of whom, surely, welcomed him with open arms. Visitation will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 12 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1 pm with Pastors Danny Whited and Justin Simmons officiating, at The Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, 206 Beauty St, Spencer, WV. In a special, fitting tribute, Roger will be transported by his coworker family in a new Harris Oil truck, followed by Joey Love driving Roger's truck on the way to his final resting place in Mount Zion Cemetery. Roger's son Derek will ride shotgun as he did sometimes as a child. In true Roger fashion, Joey plans to greet passersby with a quick toot of the truck's horn along the route. Pastor Danny Whited will lead a final graveside farewell at the cemetery. Immediately following interment, a memorial meal and gathering is being hosted at the Peniel Community Church for anyone wishing to attend.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the Oncology Department at Roane General Hospital and to Kanawha Hospice Care for their care and support during his battle with pancreatic cancer, the only enemy he ever had.
