ROGER BENTON CARPER, 58, of Elkview, West Virginia died February 9, 2017 at his home after a short term illness. He was born November 30, 1958 in Spencer, West Virginia a son of the late Bobby Benton and Helen Maxine O'Dell Carper. He was a very private person who loved to read, gardening and spending time with family. He loved being outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Jody Miller; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Hickman. Roger is survived by his sisters, Carolyn and Al Bowen of Baltimore, Maryland, Sandra and Bobby Caselle of Warners, New York, Jackie and John Kelly of Tariff, West Virginia, and Lisa Hickman of Spencer, West Virginia; brothers, Tommy and Ruth Murdock of Elkview, Ricky Carper of Spencer, Benny Carper of Spencer, and Johnny and Melissa Carper of Looneyville, West Virginia; and 19 nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special family related not by blood but by heart, Brian and Tabitha Craft and children, Samantha Cummings, Cody Cummings, Tommy and Sabrina Sanders, Annie Grose and Buddy Grose and children. Per his request, the body was cremated. TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements for the Carper family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation or service at the funeral home.
