RITA ANN McALISTER BOGGS, 77, of Linden, West Virginia; daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and loving wife passed away peacefully at Gettysburg (PA) Hospital on May 27, 2016 following her courageous battle with a long and debilitating illness. She was born at Saint Ann's Maternity Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on March 5, 1939, as the youngest child of Guy G. McAlister and Regina Rubado McAlister, whom preceded her in death. Her brothers, Guy G. (Sonny) McAlister, Jr. (San Francisco, CA) and Donald L. McAlister (Columbus, OH) as well as her sister, Jean (McAlister) Stai (Lancaster, OH) also preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Fr. Richard Ambrose McAlister, O.P. (Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History, Providence College). Mrs. Boggs graduated from Holy Rosary High School (Columbus, OH) in 1957. Thereafter, she met her eventual husband - Kenneth Blaine Boggs, while he was stationed at USAF Lockbourne Strategic Air Command Base (Columbus) - and they were wed on August 17, 1957. They shared nearly 58 years of marriage, until his death on February 22, 2015. Their union produced four children, of which three survive her passing: a daughter, Carla M. (Boggs) Sweet and husband, Michael of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and two sons, Mark A. Boggs and fiancee, Pamela Wahl of Frederick, Maryland and Neil G. Boggs and wife, Cheryl of Fairfield, Pennsylvania. Her youngest child, a son, Grandville Blair Boggs, 20, preceded her in death. She is survived by her grandson, Shaun M. Boggs and wife, Lela of Maryland Heights, Maryland as well as grandchildren, Brandon Kyle Boggs, Chelsea Blair Boggs, great-grandchild, LeAnne Boggs, and numerous nieces and nephews. Upon Mr. Boggs' discharge from the USAF in 1969, she and her husband moved their family to Linden, West Virginia - and the "city girl" began her enculturation to the "country ways". Mrs. Boggs enjoyed a sabbatical from full-time country work/homemaking duties during her time spent as a bookkeeper at Willard C. Starcher, Inc. in Spencer, West Virginia in 1973 and thereafter, as owner/operator of "Rita's Office Supply" (1974 - 1975) located on Church Street in Spencer. Mrs. Boggs enjoyed attending the numerous local churches; Hays Fork Adventist Christian Church, Epling Chapel, Tariff Baptist Church, and the First Baptist Church of Spencer. Mrs. Boggs was a member of the Roane General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for over 25 years. She was always quick to share the stories of her camaraderie with RGH staff and patient visits, including singing Happy Birthday to those folks - unfortunate to be celebrating their special day in the hospital. Mrs. Boggs health declined over the recent past years requiring home-based healthcare and associated support. Prior to her husband's death Mrs. Boggs was very appreciative of two selfless and caring neighbors in particular, whom helped her through those difficult times; Bridgette Bragg and Tara Goodwin Linkinogger. Upon her husband's passing, she relocated for continued care and support to the home of her nephew, Richard K. Stai, Jr. (and wife, Cheryl Lynn) of Rockbridge, Ohio. She remained in their care from February 28, 2015 until and emergent medical crisis presented on February 24, 2016 requiring hospitalization at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio. Upon her discharge, Mrs. Boggs was transported to Ballenger Creek Center in Frederick, Maryland for continued rehabilitation during which she enjoyed the companionship of her children. Upon her discharge from Ballenger, she relocated to her son, Neil's home and remained there until her medical condition degraded, once again requiring hospitalization. Unfortunately, Mrs. Boggs was never to fully recover from her compromised medical condition and succumbed to multiple co-morbidities on May 27, 2016. She will be painfully and terribly missed by all, whom came to know her and were blessed with her showering love. The family suggests making charitable donations to Alzheimer's Foundation of America, in lieu of flowers. Mrs. Boggs' funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, West Virginia with Rev. Robert Holland officiating. Internment will follow the service at the Young Cemetery, Linden. Visiting hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday, May 31 at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will follow the internment at the Mr. & Mrs. Neil G. Boggs residence, 1427 Tariff Road, Tariff, West Virginia.
