Obituary

Nettie Catherine Parsons, 85, of Spencer, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV after an extended illness. She was born August 15, 1938 a daughter of the late Mark and Pearl Hildreth Callow of Reedy, WV.

Catherine as we all knew her was a member of the 1957 class of Spencer High School and loved working on the class reunion planning committee. For over 30 years, she was a retired homemaker and babysitter where she soon became known as the community "mom-mom." She enjoyed sewing, canning, crafting, quilting and cooking. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and hosting multiple Halloween Parties for the community children.

She was a member of the Boggs Fork Farm Woman's Club and the Regional Feed Sack Club. Her love for working with children led her to become a lifelong member and volunteer with the Roane County 4-H Organization, Roane County 4-H Leader Association and the Roane County 4-H Foundation. Where she served not only as a member, but held many offices within the associations and was also a 4-H All Star pin wearer. She loved everything about the 4-H program and what it stood for; and had traveled to many other states as an advocate for the 4-H Organization for over 60 years. She was a devout Christian and was an active member of Boggs Fork Community Church in Spencer for over 60 years. Where she served as a Sunday School teacher, hosting all the dinners, Christmas programs, organized and led many VBS programs, wedding party planner for several community kids, and baby showers. She loved spending time and traveling with her family and her friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Herbert Paul Parsons; three daughters, Geneva Ann Cross (David), Melissa Sue Craddock (Chris), and Phyllis Jean Nutter (Kevin) all of Spencer; and three brothers, John Callow of Zanesville, OH, Stewart Callow (Ruby) and George Callow (Carolyn) both of Reedy. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Seth and Katie Kelley of Reedy, Justin Lambert of TN, Sami and Nick DeHart of VA, Muriah Nutter of Marlinton, WV, Karlee and Patrick Mollohan of Burnsville, WV, and Josh and Amy Craddock of Weston, WV. Her great-grandchildren, Bailey and Callie Kelley of Reedy, Ava Craddock of Spencer, Tawny and Bodhi Craddock of Weston, Forrest DeHart of VA, and Estelle Klark Mollohan of Burnsville, WV; and the love of many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her infant sister, Linda Callow and her son-n-law, Bryan Kelley.
