Rev. Lawson C. Whipkey, 82, of Spencer WV, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2021. He passed at home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.
Rev Whipkey was born on March 13 1939, in Calhoun County, West Virginia, the son of the late Delmas (Rooster) Whipkey, and Greta Kelly Whipkey.
He was a pastor with The United Methodist Conference, retired in 1996 after 21 years of service. Prior to his ministry he was employed by O. Ames in Parkersburg, WV.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sharon S. Ferrell Whipkey, three daughters, Shelley (Leonard) Conley of Spencer WV, Dee (Jeff) Miller of Grafton, WV, and Jane (Scott) Brown, of Clay WV; five grandchildren, Misty Walker of Charleston WV, Jordan Brown of Fairmont WV, Kaleigh Brown of Clay, WV, Carly Miller of Grafton WV, and Katelyn Hill, of Mt Alto WV; and four great grandchildren, Maddox and London Juftes of Spencer WV, and Emma and Allie Hill, of Mt. Alto WV.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Denzel, Ed, Bill, and Charlie Whipkey, and a sister who died in infancy.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, July 2, 2021, at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Visiting will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial will take place at a later date at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Grantsville, WV.
