Karen Sue Berkhouse, 79, of Left Hand, WV passed peacefully on May,17, 2024 at Roane General Hospital after a 5-month long battle that began in Charleston following the loss of her husband.

She was born on February 8,1945 a daughter of the late Garland and Gusta (Steele) Garrett. Karen was a retired educator having served 40 years in the Roane County School system. She started her career as a secretary and then went on to work in the first Kindergarten program when it was established in Roane County. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Mu Chapter. Karen was a wonderful mother who was always there for her children to offer support, wisdom and love in abundance. A friend to many, she was a pillar in her community leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength.

She is survived by her children Kimberly Carper (Troy) of Hewett, WV, Vicky Berkhouse of Left Hand, WV, Michael Berkhouse (Betsy) of Ripley, WV and Brittney Vaughan (Dustin) of Left Hand, WV; grandchildren Ryan Carper of Charleston, WV and Bayleigh Rae Vaughan of Left Hand, WV.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Gene Lee Berkhouse.

Service will be at 1:00pm on Friday, May 24th at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, WV with visitation two hours prior.  Pastor Rick Perrine will be officiating.  Burial will follow in the Clover Cemetery in Clover, WV.
