John Wesley O'Brien, 73, of Reedy, WV passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born on March 3, 1949 to the late George and Levada Knopp O'Brien; he was preceded in death by his dear brothers, Mike O'Brien and Jimmy Lee O'Brien.
Johnny is survived by his three daughters, Candi (Chad) Cowan of Lexington, NC, Debbie (Ron) Ryan of Reedy, WV and Kimmie (Terry) Lowrance of Lexington, NC; brothers, George (Laura) O'Brien of Ravenswood, WV and Glenn (Jeanie) O'Brien of Maryville, TN. Johnny was Pap to his grandchildren, Emily Harrison, Perry (Erika) Harrison, Rachael (Nathan) Heis, Michael O'Brien, Kansas O'Brien, Isaac Ryan, Cassie Williams, Erin Ryan, Delainey Lowrance and Ryan Lowrance; great-grandchildren, Madison Harrison, Macie Harrison, Kinsley Harrison, Aliyah Heis and Carter O'Brien. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a paratrooper. In his younger days, he worked in the oil and gas industry where he made many lifelong friends. After moving to Maryville, TN, Johnny worked for Anderson Lumber driving a truck and delivering trusses. He always looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Cranberry with his brothers, nephews and friends. Johnny loved fishing and hunting and enjoying the wildlife around his home in Reedy. He was a huge Tennessee Volunteers fan and enjoyed collecting knives. Johnny loved his girls and their families and was a proud Dad and Pap. He will be loved and missed but never forgotten.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. ~ Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, WV. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service on Saturday.
