John "Big John" William Caldwell, 69, of Spencer, WV, went home to be with the Lord following and extended illness on Saturday, June 18, 2016. John was born on January 29, 1947 in Spencer, WV to Ocie Caldwell and John Nutter. He graduated in 1965 from Spencer High School and served with the West Virginia National Guard. On March 23, 1970, he married the former Molly Greathouse of Spencer. John was employed for 40+ years in the Oil and Gas Industry, until he was forced to stop due to his illness. He spent most of his days watching sports and westerns and spending time with his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife of 46 years Molly; Daughters, Annette (Jeff) Claypool, Shannon (Timothy) Salisbury, Amy (Nathan) Barrett, Belinda (Nathan) Carpenter, Becky (Eugene) Long, and Elizabeth Waggoner; Sons, John Caldwell Jr., Charles (Caiti Watson) James, Michael (Natasha) McCumbers; Mother, Ocie Hunt, Step-father, Jesse Starcher, Brothers, Alan Starcher, Kevin Starcher, Jesse "Moe" Starcher, Sister, Debbie Starcher, eighteen grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, John Nutter, brother, Mike Starcher, nephew, Aaron Starcher, niece, Christian Starcher-Seabolt, and his grandparents. John was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, WV. Bill Walton and Roger Miller will be speaking. Visitation will begin at noon. John requested to be cremated and no graveside service.
