Joann Ruth
Wright
Oct 1, 1937 — Oct 20, 2022
Joann Ruth Wright of Spencer, West Virginia, left her earthly world to enter her heavenly kingdom on October 20, 2022.
Ruth, as she was affectionately known, was born on October 1, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland, to parents W.C. "Mick" Pence and Joann Pence. Her family moved to Calhoun County, West Virginia, when Ruth was a young girl, and she lived there until her graduation from Calhoun County High School in 1955.
She married Oris Wright, Jr. of Spencer, West Virginia, and raised four children. She was a member of the Spencer Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years. She was retired from Spencer Newspapers, and upon retirement became a volunteer at the Roane General Hospital, happily giving her time in the gift shop for many years.
Ruth had many interests over her lifetime, including canning fresh foods from her garden, quilting, singing in the church choir, cooking and baking, and sewing. She was renown in her neighborhood for the many potted flowers she displayed around the huge front porch of her home. She loved "word-search" puzzle books, and any visit from her family required that puzzle books were added to her always growing stack.
Ruth is survived by her sons. Jim (Susan) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Larry (Jessica) of Clendenin, West Virginia, and Roger of Spencer, West Virginia. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by son-in-law Sean Fleming of Cross Lanes, West Virginia. Surviving sisters include Francine Hall of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, Mary Fowler (Denny), of Charleston, West Virginia, and Donna (Gary) Scadd of Lima, Ohio. She is survived by brother, Richard (Myra) of Reedy, West Virginia.......Ruth is also survived by special niece, Lisa Starcher (Steve) of Frozen Camp, West Virginia and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Oris, Jr. and daughter, Joann Elizabeth Fleming.
Funeral services are planned for Sunday, October 23, at 2 pm at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, West Virginia. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Eventide Cemetery, Spencer WV. Pastor Bradley Petitt will perform the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Ruth's name to the Miletree Center Activities Club, 825 Summit Street, Spencer, WV 25276.
