Jerry Leonard Phillips, 87, of Millwood, WV, passed away September 25, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born December 7, 1938, in Reedy, Roane County, WV, a son of the late Debert and Ernestine (Vandale) Phillips.
He was a 1957 graduate of Spencer High School. He retired from Pechiney Aluminum in December of 2000 with 28 years of service and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668 Ravenswood. He was previously employed with Airco Trucking where he hauled liquid nitrogen and with the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a proud United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War where he was stationed for 13 months serving as a deterrent. He began his service in Aberdeen, MD, with the Foreign Technical Intelligence Organization (FTIO) where he helped conduct shows of military guns, weapons systems and demolition.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Betty (Pudder) Phillips; sister, Kay Morehead of Millwood; brother in law Jack McCullough of Millwood; children, Craig Phillips and Jackie Mullen both of Millwood; grandchildren, Ryan (Felicia) Mullen of Palestine, Hunter Phillips of Ripley and Ethan Mullen of Sandyville; great-grandchildren, Abilene Mullen, Aden, Liam and Dean Phillips; nephews, Gilbert Morehead of Mogadore, OH, Jeffrey Morehead of Washington, DC and Richard McCullough of Clarksburg.
He was a wonderful husband, father, uncle and pappaw. He and Betty traveled all over the United States mostly camping. His favorite place was the Cranberry River where they had their camping families. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on boat motors and Volkswagens and farming in his younger years. He gave and helped so many people over the years and had a big heart and never spoke poorly of anyone. It didnt matter how they looked or where they came from or their background. Jerry believed in giving everyone a chance and a second chance.
