Obituary

Jearold "Jerry" Stanley Carpenter, 72, of Vienna, WV passed away peacefully on November 12th, 2024 at Willows Center Nursing Home in Parkersburg, WV. Born on September 6, 1952, Jerry was raised in Calhoun County, WV and was the son of the late Gay "Buck" and the late Myrtle Grace Carpenter.

Jerry began his working career as a young man at Hardman's hardware store in Spencer, WV. He then moved on to working in the Oil and Gas industry with Dowell Schlumberger and other companies for many years. He worked as a salesman at Buzzy Dils Ford in Parkersburg and ended his working career at the formerly known Ravenswood Aluminum Corporation (RAC) in Ravenswood, WV.

Jerry is best known for his humor. With his quit wit, he could make you laugh with a saying, a joke and most often would make something up as he went along in a conversation. Known also for his tenacity, hard work ethic and determination, Jerry always managed to make the best out of a bad situation. He had a deep appreciation and love of guns, hunting and fishing in the mountains on the shores of the ocean. Jerry had a creative mind and could always be found tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He shared his love of Mountaineer football, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates with his wife Beckie, making several trips to games with friends and family over the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Damien G. Carpenter and his wife of 49 years, Rebecca "Beckie" (Murdock) Carpenter.

Left behind to cherish his memory and certainly to be quoted in his humorous way is his daughter, Heather Whaley of Vienna; two granddaughters Olivia Whaley of Vienna; Madison Pagan (Jake Shockey) of Parkersburg; his great-grandson Isaac David Shockey; two brothers, Ronald (Jane) Carpenter of Grantsville and Jeffrey (Tami) Carpenter of Crown City, Oh; uncle Richard (Dot) Brannon of Parkersburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous business associates and friends.

Jerry's family gives praise, special thanks and are forever grateful to his neighborhood family, the medical, nursing and support staff at WVU Camden Clark (ER/ACU/ICU/4N), Belmont Nursing Center, Encompass Rehabilitation, Willows Center Nursing Home and Housecalls Hospice medical and nursing staff for their phenomenal and loving care to Jerry and his family.

Jerry lived by a saying with the wave of his hand, "Don't worry about me, I'll be alright". After decades of multiple health issues, he kept his hope and humor alive. He weathered many storms and knew himself, that despite the statistics and doubts that many people, including medical professionals had about his condition and faith, he would pull through. He fought hard and he fought well. Let us be reminded Romans 5:3-5, "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
