James Harold Harris, 76 of Spencer, passed away May 14, 2022 at Miletree Healthcare Center.
Jim was born on September 8, 1946 in Spencer, a son to the late Ruby Harris Knopp and Harold Starcher at Gordon Hospital in Spencer, WV.
Jim was a small business owner in Spencer for many years including; Harris Licensing Service, Harris Service Station, Harris Floral and being a general contractor. He was a member of the Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years and had served as President of the
Roane County Parks and Recreation Commission. He served as an umpire for the WVSSAC and was the last serving Constable for Roane County. He also served for years as a member of the Spencer Police Department's Auxiliary Police.
He was an avid collector of antiques and glassware. You could always find him at an auction, holding card 100 and he was always ready to make a deal. He was a supporter of Roane County football. He also was a lifelong WVU Mountaineer fan. He enjoyed the company of his dog Jody as well.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years Wanda; his daughter Kelley (Gary) Evans of Spencer, his grandson Dustin (Tyler) Jett of Mooresville, NC, his brother William (Sandra) Harris of Cincinnati, OH and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers Clayton "Whitey" Harris and Fred Batton and grandson Travis Jett.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer. Burial will be at a later date at the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer.
