Homer H. Dougherty, 87, of Looneyville, WV, went to his eternal home August 14, 2026 at Roane General Hospital, Spencer, WV.

He was born June 11, 1939, in Looneyville, WV, a son of the late H.W. Dougherty and Bonnie (Jarvis) Dougherty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Annabelle (Bailes) Dougherty.

He was a graduate of Spencer High School. He was a member of the Epling Chapel Baptist Church, Looneyville, WV. He was retired from the State of West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection as an oil and gas inspector. Homer was also a former employee of Stonestreet Land Company, Roy Griffith and Kanawha Machine. Homer enjoyed working with his tractors, restoring tractors, farming, telling stories, mechanical work, welding and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his son, John Dougherty and his wife Pat of Spencer, WV; daughter, Melissa Nichols and her husband Randall of Looneyville, WV; grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Johnson of Ravenswood, WV and Heidi Alvis of Alliance, OH; great-grandchildren, Luke and Levi Johnson of Ravenswood, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Acute Care, swing bed and long-term care for their excellent care and compassion.

Service will be 1 p.m. ~ August 18, 2026 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Whited officiating. Burial will follow in Looney Cemetery, Looneyville, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time-of-service Tuesday at the funeral home.
