Ernest Harold Smith, 83, of Spencer, WV, passed away on May 24, 2026, at Miletree Health Center in Spencer after an extended illness. He was born on November 18, 1942, to parents Ernest J. and Gracie Pingley Smith.
Harold attended Walton High School and later moved to Goshen, Indiana. When he returned to WV, he retired as a security guard, working at Norris Industries in Spencer and at Shoney's Warehouse in Ripley, WV. He was a musician and had played in bands in Indiana and West Virginia.
He was a Christian and attended churches in the Harmony and Spencer, WV areas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lonie Berdiehl Hersman Smith, sister Rena Volitis, and two infant brothers.
He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Kay Weldy (Chad), of Warsaw, Indiana. Granddaughter Rylee Noelle Weldy of Warsaw, Indiana, one grandson, Trever Jon Weldy (Madison) of Bloomington, Indiana; one great granddaughter, Annie Faye Weldy; one brother, Kenneth Smith (Becky) of Spencer, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no service; ashes will be interred in the Smith Family Cemetery on Vicars Ridge in Roane County at a later date.
