Dorla Deane
Ashley
d. Apr 14, 2023
Gandeeville
Dorla Deane Ashley, 87, passed away peacefully at home April 14, 2023.
The daughter of the late Doy and Veva Westfall, she was proceeded in death by her husband of 54 years, Larry Ashley, her brothers Doy (Jr) Westfall, William (Bill) Westfall, and sisters Adelee Conley and Barbara Mikeal.
She is survived by her sister Doris O'Brien, daughter Beth Raines, son Tim Ashley and wife Linda, Grandsons Justin Raines and wife Avi, Lane Ashley and fiancé Kassy, Alex Ashley and wife Emily, Cole Ashley and girlfriend Kaylin, Granddaughter Ashley Glaspell and husband Kevin, great-grandchildren Jayden Lupardus, Thea Glaspell and Nash Glaspell.
Having lived most, if not all, of her life in Gandeeville, where her family built a store containing the Gandeeville Post Office, at which Dorla worked as the postmaster until she retired. She was an active church member all of her life, most recently of Lighthouse Ministries in Walton, where her contribution was instrumental in the construction of a new sanctuary. She loved sports often attending the games of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her health allowed and watching her Cincinnati Reds on television every chance she got. But the apple of her eye was her family. Besides being a devoted wife she was dedicated to her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses, her great-grandchildren, her siblings and all of their extended families. Her heart was caring and her spirit both generous and giving. She was rarely in the forefront but could always be seen in the background supporting those she loved.
Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Gandeeville Cemetery officiated by Andy Crihfield and Tim Ashley.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite church, charity or organization with the same generous and giving spirit that was the hallmark of Dorla's life.
Arrangements provided by Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer,WV. Online condolences may be shared with the family at: www.taylorvandalefuneralhome.com
