CHARLES DAYTON MARTIN, 82, of Ravenswood, West Virginia died March 26, 2017 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio after an extended illness. He was born January 20, 1935 in Dunbar, West Virginia a son of the late Sherman Roscoe and Mary Frances Mullen Martin. He was retired from General Motors in Michigan, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was Christian by faith. He was a veteran of both the US Navy and Marines. Charles is survived by one daughter, Sandy of Hillsdale, Michigan; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Carl Martin of Dunbar; and several nieces and nephews, including Roy Shumate and his wife, Sharon, with whom he made his home recently. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Faye Shumate Martin; a daughter, Denise; one brother, Denzel Martin; and three sisters, Betty Pickens, Bonnie Sowards and Margaret Martin. Per his request, the body was cremated. Burial of the ashes and a graveside memorial service will be at a later date in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer, West Virginia. TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements for the Martin family. There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to the graveside service.
