Charles "Chuck" Kelly Hughes, 56, of South Charleston, went home to The Lord on June 10th, 2025, after a long and difficult health journey.
Chuck was born in Ripley on September 15th, 1968, to his parents Charles "Charlie" N. Hughes and Wilma McGraw Hughes. He grew up in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School. He obtained his bachelor's degree in social work from West Virginia State College and used his education to help serve others.
He is survived by his children, Shayla Hughes (Michael Channell) of Clendenin and Charles "Squeek" Hughes, II of South Charleston; his sister, Tina Hughes (Sandra Murray) of Marietta, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews, including his special little buddy Rainey; brothers of the heart, Wade Branard and Mike Graziosi. Chuck also loved many of his children's friends and counted them as his bonus kids.
In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Loretta and his brother, Terry Starcher.
Chuck always had a smile and joke ready to go, never faltering in his infectious joy. He was strong in his faith and even in his darkest days he continued to praise The Lord for his blessings. He loved people and if he met a stranger, they didn't stay one for long. To know Chuck was to love him, but to be known by him meant that you were loved.
A service for Chuck will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 13, 2025 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Wade Branard speaking.  Burial will follow in the Fox Cemetery near Spencer.  Visiting will be two hours prior to the service on Friday.
